How It Happened –
The Tigers traveled to the Sand Creek Station Golf Club, a course full of history and high regards. This course hosted the 89th and last ever U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in 2014 and had been the sight for several Summit League Championships. The Tigers played their 36 holes in windy conditions, gusts upwards of 40 MPH and a consistent 30 MPH breeze. Through the first 18 holes, Peyton Bettcher led the way, as he posted a 79. Juan Florez was right on Bettcher's heels, only two strokes behind with his 81. Jackson Childs played some of his best golf all season and posted an 83 in the first round. Connor Calahan and Carson Van Beek turned in their score cards with scores of 84 and 87 respectively to finish out the first 18.
Racing against daylight and tomorrow's lightning delays, the golfers pushed to put in their next 18 holes. Bettcher would finish as the top Tiger, as he finished with an 82. Florez picked up his game and finished with an 80 to give him the same two-round score has Peyton, a 161. Childs continued his solid performance to card an 81, finishing with a 36-hole score of 164. Calahan cut one stroke off and finished round-two with an 83 to score a 167. Van Beek had the best second round for the team, as he would cut six strokes off his first 18 holes and came into the clubhouse with an 81 and finished with a total score of 168. Each Tiger golfer contributed to the team score in each round. They posted a round one score of 327 led by Bettcher's sub 80 score and then a 324 in round two thanks to Van Beek's strong second-round performance. Coach Jeff Meyerink had this to say about the team's performance, "the guys didn't score up to their potential but none of the guys were getting down on themselves. They continued to fight and grind for every shot. Sustained winds of thirty plus miles per hour make it tough to stay in it when things don't go your way. Sometimes you can do most everything right and the ball just won't go in, it's just a hard game. This team showed me they want to work, and they want to win so that's what we are going to continue to strive for until we get it done. If the team gives me everything they have, I'll never be disappointed, and they did that today. Good way to finish off the fall season.
Up Next for the Tigers –
