Schedule includes Hawaii trip, SDSU match-up for DWU women
MITCHELL, S.D. – Coming off a banner year in 2015-16, the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball coach Jason Christensen has put together another exciting schedule of games for the Tigers this season.
MITCHELL, S.D. – Coming off a banner year in 2015-16, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball coach Jason Christensen has put together another exciting schedule of games for the Tigers this season.
The Tigers hit the road for the team's first nine contests, including exhibition games against the University of Wyoming, a closed-door scrimmage, and in-state powerhouse, South Dakota State University.
DWU opens the season in Denver, Colo., against Johnson & Wales University on Nov. 27, before taking on Wyoming the following day in Laramie, Wyo. November begins with four games in six days, highlighted by contests against instate foes Dakota State University and Presentation College at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D., before DWU heads east to La Crosse, Wis. to face Indiana University-Northwest Nov. 11 and Cardinal Stritch University Nov. 12. The tough stretch concludes with a matchup against St. Cloud State University, an NCAA Division II program.
The Tigers open the Great Plains Athletic Conference schedule against Dordt College Nov. 16 in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Corn Crib Crazies will get their first look at the Tigers on the Corn Palace court when Midland University comes to town on Nov. 19. Defending GPAC champion Morningside College takes on the Tigers at the Palace on Nov. 30.
Highlighting the first half of the season will be a trip to Hawaii for DWU just before Christmas. The Tigers take on Indiana Tech Dec. 20 and Grace College of Indiana Dec. 21 in Honolulu.
Rival Dakota State opens the post-break schedule on Jan. 4, 2017 before 12 straight conference games to close the regular season. The final home game of the regular season will be against Northwestern College on Feb. 15, while DWU's last contest before the GPAC tournament takes place against the College of Saint Mary Feb. 18.
The GPAC tournament is scheduled for Feb. 22-28 at campus sites across the GPAC. DWU made it all the way to the GPAC Championship game and to the NAIA quarterfinals a year ago, finishing the season with a record of 27-9 overall and 15-7 in conference play.
