DWU women’s basketball speaks at local grade school
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team spoke to local grade school students on Friday afternoon at Longfellow Elementary in Mitchell, S.D.
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team spoke to local grade school students on Friday afternoon at Longfellow Elementary in Mitchell, S.D.
Student-athletes Makaela Karst (Plankinton, S.D.), Riley Osthus (De Smet, S.D.), Kynedi Cheeseman (Alexandria, S.D.) and Sarah Carr (Huron, S.D.) spoke about teamwork in front of 375 students. Head Coach Jason Christensen gave an opening address followed by each student-athlete talking about their favorite teamwork quotes and how they apply them to everyday life.
"Having community members buy into our program and being a part of it and partnering with us absolutely makes a difference in our students' lives," Principal Lisa Heckenlaible said. "We are very grateful for DWU and the women's basketball team and coach Christensen that they were able to come today to show our students what they can be when they get older and how they can be a hero and that it doesn't stop at school."
