TIGERS GET THE SWEEP ON DAY TWO OF THE INVITATIONAL GAMES IN ARIZONA
Tucson, Ariz. – Dakota Wesleyan University softball dominates in their second day of games in Arizona. The Tigers pulled out a 6-4 win over the Fighting Saints of Saint Francis in game one before closing the door early on Dickinson en route to a 14-9 victory in game two.

How It Happened
Game One
- Saint Francis started the ball game off with a long ball to left field, going ahead 1-0.
- DWU answered in the bottom of the first inning as McKinnely Mull singled through the left side allowing Alyssa Burke to score, knotting the score at 1-1.
- While the tie game didn't last long, the Fighting Saints put up two more run in the second on three hits.
- USF stranded one runner on base as the third out came on a pop up to the DWU shortstop.
- After a scoreless fourth inning and one Saint Francis runner left of base, the Tigers stepped up in the bottom of the fifth.
- Leadoff batter Adriana Thomason led off taking a walk to first base on ball four.
- After a fielding error by USF, Mull sent one over the fence for a three-run shot and the 5-3 lead.
- Payton Bagley singled shortly after allowing the final run of the game in Allison McElveny to score for the 6-4 win.
- Burke went 3-of-3 with three runs, a triple, and a stolen base.
- Mull was 2-of-4 with one run, four RBI, and a home run.
- Tava Boone collected the win from the circle, pitching seven innings and allowing nine hits, four runs, and striking out four batters.
Game Two
- In game two, the Tigers shut Dickinson State down through the first two innings and the bats came alive.
- McElveny started off the bringing runners home as she reached first on an error that allowed Burke and Mull to score after they both stole a base.
- Jacey Linke also played the short game, butting to second base that allowed McElveny to score.
- Link then crossed home on a passed ball before Thomason singled to left field for Lena McCoy to score.
- Mull rounded out the RBI on a hard ground ball to center field.
- The Tigers concluded the half inning with eight runs, seven hits, one error, and one left on base.
- After another three-run inning by DWU on five hits, Dakota Wesleyan was up 11-0 after the first 2 ½ innings or nine outs.
- The Blue Hawks put up two runs in the bottom of the third inning off a double to center field, cutting the lead, 11-2.
- Mull answered for DWU driving in two Tigers for a 13-2 advantage in the top of the fourth.
- Dickinson grabbed four runs in the fifth inning with a three RBI base clearing triple, followed by a single to center field as the Tigers continue to lead 13-6.
- Grossi put the final DWU run on the board in the top of the seventh as the DSU shortstop made a fielding error, the Blue Hawks put up three runs in the bottom of the inning.
- The Tigers grab the win in dominating fashion of the Blue Hawks 14-9 to grab the sweep on day two of play from the desert of Tucson, Ariz.
- Burke went 3-of-5 with three runs, one RBI, and two stolen bases.
- Mull was 4-of-5 with one run, four RBI, a double, and a stolen base.
- Grossi went 3-of-4 with two runs and a stolen base
- Tianna Boone was 3-of-5 with one run and a double.
- Thomason was 2-of-2 with three runs, three RBI, and a stolen base.
- Daffern collected the win tossing five complete innings and allowing 11 hits, six runs, two walks, and striking out five.
