DWU TIGERS SQUARE OFF AGAINST NO. 2 MUSTANGS IN SEASON FINALE
Mitchell, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan football welcomes No. 2 Morningside to Joe Quintal Field for the final contest of the 2021 season.
ABOUT THE TIGERS
- DWU enters the final weekend of the 2021 season with records of 4-6 overall, 4-5 in GPAC play and 3-2 at home.
- The Tigers are putting up a mean of 286.8 yards of total offense per game this season with 136.6 yards on the ground and 150.2 passing yards.
- Cayden Cunningham has been the top quarterback for head coach Ross Cimpl the last few games, averaging 46.7 passing yards per game with a 56.5% completion rate.
- Cunningham, the freshman quarterback from Norfolk, Neb., has thrown three touchdowns in his three games played.
- Wide receiver Tate Larson caught his first collegiate touchdown pass, grabbing a 20-yard strike from Cunningham in the fourth quarter against Jamestown.
- On the ground, Jamin Arend continues to lead the Tigers, averaging 76.8 yards per contest with four touchdowns on the season.
- Dakota Wesleyan is converting 30% of its third downs and 32% of its fourth downs.
- The Tiger kicking group is 16-of-18 on PAT kicks with Tate Gale converting on 85% of his P A T tries.
- Samuel Kretschmar and Cody Reichelt lead the defensive group with 55 and 66 total tackles respectively.
- As a team, the Tigers have tallied 30 sacks for a total loss of 162 yards, led by Reichelt and Dominick Warmbein with seven sacks and 4.5 sacks.
ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
- Morningside arrives in Mitchell with records of 9-0 overall, 9-0 in conference play and a perfect 4-0 on the road.
- The Mustangs handed No. 2 Northwestern its first loss of the 2021 season in a 55-49 thriller on the road.
- MU is putting up an average of 644.1 total yards per game; 249.8 of those yards are on the ground with 394.3 yards in the air.
- Morningside is allowing opponents a mean of 286 yards per game this season and a mere 65.8 rushing yards per contest.
- Joe Dolincheck leads the quarterback group for the Mustangs, tossing an average of 330.4 yards per game with a 68.7% completion rate.
- Anthony Sims is the leading rusher with a mean of 137.6 yards per contest and 25 touchdowns on the season.
