POOLER, Ga. – The 2016-17 Dakota Wesleyan University women's golf season ended in the second round of the NAIA National Championships Friday at Savannah Country Club in Pooler, Ga. The Tigers improved in the second round, but were unable to overcome the slow start on Wednesday.
The event was shortened to two rounds from the scheduled four due to rain and lightning in the area all week. The Tigers finished in 26th place in the 27-team field with a two-round score of 750 (385-365). The National Championship remained with Keiser University, which carded a 599.
In her final round as a Tiger, senior Lauren Fitts (Brookings, S.D.) returned to her usual form after a tough opening round. Fitts rebounded from an 89 in round one to shoot 79 in the final round. Fitts finished the event in a tie for 97th with a two-round score of 168.
After leading the Tigers in round one with an 88, senior Taylor Anshutz closed her Tiger career with an 89 in round two to finish with an overall score of 177. Junior April Barnett (Lakeview, Texas) also closed her time as a Tiger with a two-round score of 191, while freshman Nicole Nelson (Platte, S.D.) carded a 214 in her first appearance at the NAIA National Championships.
