SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team finished up the 2014 preseason with a 1-1 tie against the University of Sioux Falls, an NCAA Division II program, Tuesday in Sioux Falls.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead around 20 minutes into the first half when senior forward Thara Ali Said took advantage of a rebound to find the back of the net. First-year DWU coach Clayson Glasgow said he is excited from what he sees from his star forward, adding that Ali Said not only draws the attention of opposing defenders, but makes her teammates better.
Overall, Glasgow was pleased with his team's performance across the board against the Cougars. Official stats were not recorded in the exhibition.
"I thought we did a good job of winning he 50-50 balls on the ground and in the air," Glasgow said. "On a whole, the team defensively showed how hard it worked during the preseason. I'm excited for where we are right now, but we are not satisfied. We still have a lot of work to do."
The Tigers won their first preseason game 5-2 over Iowa Lakes Community College on Aug. 16 in Spencer, Iowa.
DWU begins the regular season in Denver, Colo., against McPherson College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at Manuel High School and take on Johnson & Wales University at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1 at Denver East High School.
