MITCHELL, S.D. – The honors just keep rolling in for Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer senior Megan Johnson, who earned her second straight Great Plains Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor, after scoring eight goals in two games last week.
For her effort in two Tiger victories, Johnson added an NAIA Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award to her already impressive final season with DWU, it was announced Tuesday.
The Rapid City, S.D., native poured in six goals in the first road win of the season for the Tigers against Grace University last Wednesday. The effort broke the school record for goals in a game and gave her 10 tallies in two contests dating back to a win over Clark University on Sept. 14.
In the GPAC opener for the Tigers, Johnson netted both goals in a 2-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday. The win was the third straight for a DWU (3-4) team that started 2014 winless in its first four contests.
This is the first national player of the week award for Johnson, who has 15 goals in seven games on the season. She ranks No. 1 in the nation in total goals scored, goals per game (2.14) and points per game (4.430). She ranks third in the NAIA in total points.
Johnson and the Tigers will look to keep things rolling against Presentation College at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
