MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team has made it nearly impossible for opponents to score in recent games and that trend continued with a 3-0 shutout over Waldorf College Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D., giving the Tigers a sixth straight win.
The Tigers (6-3) have allowed just one goal in their last six games dating back three weeks. To make things better, the DWU offense that struggled to find reward in the first three games of 2014, has found a rhythm to back up the team's solid defensive play.
DWU got the scoring started with a goal from senior midfielder Bryce Berletic (Rochester, Minn.) on a corner kick assist from senior forward Chaz Foss (Rapid City, S.D.).
Foss then found his scoring touch with a pair of goals, the second assisted by senior defender Tyler Grilley (Sioux Falls, S.D.). Foss leads the Tigers with six goals this season.
The win gave junior goalkeeper Alex Nelson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) his fifth shutout of the season. He made six saves in the win.
The Tigers outshot the Warriors 17 to 10.
DWU returns to Great Plains Athletic Conference play against Dordt College at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday in Sioux Center, Iowa.
