DWU softball swept by Hastings in GPAC opener
HASTINGS, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team opened the Great Plains Athletic Conference season with a doubleheader against Hastings College Saturday in Hastings, Neb.

HASTINGS, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team opened the Great Plains Athletic Conference season with a doubleheader against Hastings College Saturday in Hastings, Neb.
The Broncos pulled away in the first game and held off a Tiger rally in the second to sweep DWU. The Tigers fall to 5-15 overall and 0-2 in the GPAC.
The Tigers fell behind 5-0 in the first game after the Broncos scored four in the fifth inning. DWU got on the board with two in the sixth on a home run by junior catcher Hailey Unger (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) that drove in senior Danielle Klassen (Niverville, Manitoba, Canada). Hastings tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth and won the opener 7-2.
Down 8-2 in the second game, DWU scored six runs in the fifth inning to even the score. Hastings pulled back ahead with three in the bottom of the fifth and held on for an 11-8 win. Unger added two more RBIs, while sophomore Elise Sutherland (Stansbury, Utah) added two hits and an RBI.
Sophomore hurler Lorissa Loeppky (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) took the loss on the mound in both games, starting the first and pitching the complete game. She entered the second game in the fifth inning in relief.
The Tigers step out of conference play for an exhibition doubleheader against Central Community College starting at noon Sunday in Columbus, Neb.
