MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team has stayed close to home this recruiting season to add talent for the future, with another South Dakota product committing to the Tigers.
Andriana Sprakel, a native of Yankton, S.D., signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball for the Tigers, it was announced Friday. She is the sixth member of the 2015 DWU recruiting class from South Dakota.
"We could not be more excited about Andi coming to DWU," DWU Head Coach Ed Kieff said. "She is first and foremost a great student with 4.0 GPA. As for her skills on the field, she is an incredible ball player. She does not strikeout and plays shortstop and is a great outfielder as well."
Sprakel finished the 2014 softball season with the Yankton Gazelles with a .451 batting average, following a junior season that saw her bat .429. She has struck out just five times in her high school career.
Sprakel, a 5-foot-8 right-handed hitter and thrower, was named to the All-State team in 2013 and 2014, while being named an All-State Honorable Mention in 2011 and 2012. She is the fourth member of DWU assistant coach Jim Misiaszek's summer team that will be playing in its second season together in 2015 to sign with the Tigers for next year.
"It is a talented group and we are fortunate to have these young ladies coming to campus this fall," Kieff said.
In the classroom, Sprakel is a member of the National Honor Society and the Roll of Excellence for seven consecutive semesters at Yankton High School. She is the daughter of Don and Jill Sprakel.
