After best season in program history, Tiger softball picked 7th in GPAC
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team had the best run in the program’s history in 2014 and will look to continue moving forward under Head Coach Ed Kieff, who is entering his fourth season with the Tigers.
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team had the best run in the program's history in 2014 and will look to continue moving forward under Head Coach Ed Kieff, who is entering his fourth season with the Tigers.
DWU finished 22-18 in 2014, giving the Tigers the most wins in the school history. The Tigers tied or broke 12 records in 2014, including the record for wins in a season. As a team, Dakota Wesleyan set records for runs (181), doubles (61) and stolen bases (61) in a season.
The Tigers also picked up its first win ever in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament, an 8-2 victory over Dordt College. DWU also topped Doane College 7-3 before falling to Concordia University by one run to close the 2014 season.
This season, DWU is picked to finish seventh according the GPAC Preseason Coaches' Poll voted on by the league's coaches, it was announced Monday. The Tigers received 41 points in poll, in which the league's coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.
Morningside College, which tied for the regular season championship last season with Northwestern College at 15-5 in league play, was tabbed to win the GPAC this season. The Mustangs took 90 points and three first-place votes in the poll.
Concordia was picked second with 85 points and a league-best four first-place votes. Midland University was picked third with two first-place votes and 78 points, while Northwestern received the other two first-place votes and 75 points.
The Tigers open the 2015 season with a doubleheader against the University of Sioux Falls at 3 p.m. on Feb. 13 in Rochester, Minn.
