Tiger softball drops two to Prairie Wolves in Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team opened the second half of the Great Plains Athletic Conference schedule with pair of losses to Nebraska Wesleyan University Friday in Lincoln.

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team opened the second half of the Great Plains Athletic Conference schedule with pair of losses to Nebraska Wesleyan University Friday in Lincoln.
The Prairie Wolves were potent on offense against the Tigers, winning game one 14-4 and the finale 12-4, both in five innings. The losses drop DWU to 8-28 overall and 3-9 in the GPAC.
After a triple from sophomore Katy Lazenby (Mitchell, S.D.) in the first inning of game one, Natalie Gutierrez (Los Angeles, Calif.) singled home the game's first run to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead. NWU struck back quickly, scoring 13 times in the second inning to put the game out of reach.
Reigning GPAC Pitcher-of-the-Week Lorissa Loeppky (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) started, but exited in the second inning after allowing eight runs, seven earned on eight hits. Freshman Karlee Jenkins (Palmdale, Calif.) pitched the final three innings for DWU.
The Prairie Wolves finished with 14 hits and no errors compared to 10 hits and two errors for the Tigers.
In game two, DWU bounced back after allowing three runs from NWU in the first inning. The Tigers took the lead 4-3 after two runs in the second and third innings. Sophomore Elise Sutherland (Stansbury, Utah) singled home two in the second for the Tigers, while senior Katie Anderus (Lancaster, Calif.) double home a pair in the third.
NWU bounced back with five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to end the game. Jenkins took the loss in game two, pitching the entire way for DWU. The Prairie Wolves finished with 17 hits and one error, while the Tigers compiled eight hits and no errors.
The Tigers continue GPAC competition against Morningside College at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
