DWU softball adds two more to Class of 2015
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team recently began the 2015 campaign with four games in Rochester, Minn., on Feb. 13-14 and Tiger Head Coach Ed Kieff has been working to get the next group of DWU players signed for the future.
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team recently began the 2015 campaign with four games in Rochester, Minn., on Feb. 13-14 and Tiger Head Coach Ed Kieff has been working to get the next group of DWU players signed for the future.
The Tigers signed two more players to National Letters of Intent, it was announced Monday, bringing the class of 2015 to seven recruits.
Boise, Idaho, native Jordynne Ketchum signed with the Tigers earlier this month and will provide depth for the Tigers in the outfield. The 5-foot-7 centerfielder batted .360 for, with an on-base percentage of .410 and slugging percentage of .453 for Centennial High School. She was named a team captain and voted the team's Most Inspirational Player. She was also a member of the ski team at Centennial.
"Jordynne adds depth to our outfield and solidifies the middle for us," Kieff said. "She is a great student and will fit in to our program well. We are extremely happy and fortunate to have signed her."
In the classroom, Ketchum earned All-SIC Academic honors in 2012, 2013 and 2014. She is the daughter of Sam and Debbie Ketchum and plans to major in athletic training and allied health at DWU.
Continuing the pipeline of players to join DWU softball from the Great White North, Kieff signed Claudia Nixon, who signed with the Tigers on Friday. Nixon comes to DWU as a catcher who has batted .492 with a slugging percentage of .729. In the field the 5-foot-5 Nixon had a fielding percentage of .924.
"Our Canadian pipeline is still doing well," Kieff said. "Claudia will solidify our team in several areas. She has a great bat and loves the game which will serve her well over the next four years. She will add another great student to our roster. We are fortunate to have her in Mitchell and she will help continue the development our program here at DWU."
Nixon was a four-year starter for the Martin Academy volleyball team, while in the classroom, she is an Honor Roll member.
Claudia is the daughter of Dennis and Sheri Nixon and plans to major in business at DWU.
