MITCHELL, S.D. – The future of the Dakota Wesleyan University softball team is looking strong as Head Coach Ed Kieff has had success bringing top talent from around South Dakota and recently added a junior transfer to the fold for 2016.
San Ramon, Calif., native Nicole Stark recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball for the Tigers in 2016, it was announced Monday. Kieff sees Stark as someone who can step in and make an impact right away.
"Nicole is a seasoned player coming in as a junior in to a spot that we need to fill next season, so this is a huge signing for the program," Kieff said. "Nicole was a first team all-conference selection as a freshman and will make an immediate impact on our team. She is fast and is a great hitter. Her experience will be a big asset to the outfield."
Stark, who bats and throws from the right side, has played for Chabot College in Hayward, Calif., for the past two seasons. She was named All-Conference First Team and to the All-Tournament Team as a freshman.
The 5-foot-7 outfielder had a .500 batting average at Dougherty Valley High School where she was named the team MVP all four years. Stark also earned All-League First Team honors as a junior and senior.
Nicole is the daughter of Roy and Melinda Stark and plans to major in psychology at DWU.
