MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team snapped a midseason losing streak last week, picking up its first wins of the Great Plains Athletic Conference season, sweeping Briar Cliff University, as the Tigers were led by a sparkling performance on the mound.
Sophomore pitcher Lorissa Loeppky (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) pitched all 14 innings for the Tigers in two wins over the Chargers. For her performance, Loeppky was named the GPAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week, it was announced Tuesday.
Loeppky battled through game one against BCU, allowing three runs on just four hits, while walking five and striking out two. She held the Chargers off the board in the seventh inning securing the first GPAC win of the season for DWU.
In the second game, Loeppky was right back on the mound for the Tigers and she put together an even more impressive outing. Loeppky allowed three hits in a 5-0 win for the Tigers. She faced just two batters over the minimum and struck out two in the first shutout of the season for DWU.
Loeppky has been credited with all seven Tiger wins this season. She has a team-best 4.85 ERA and has struck out 46 batters in 128 and 1/3 innings of work.
DWU looks to keep the momentum going against instate rival Mount Marty College at 4 p.m. today at McWhirter Field in Mitchell, S.D.
