TIGER SOFTBALL RUNS OUT OF BATS AGAINST BEAVERS AS THEY DROP GAMES AGAINST CC AND MSU
Minot, N.D. – Dakota Wesleyan softball drops both games in the Minot Bubble, but it wasn't without more big individual performances. Peyton Bagley hit for the first Tiger softball cycle of the season in a close game two against Minot State.

How It Happened
Game One:
DWU got the first game of the day started stranding one Carroll runner on base in the top of the first before the Tigers went three-up and three-down in the bottom of the inning. The Fighting Saints opened the scoring with a single to center field allowing a pair of runners to score for the 2-0 lead over DWU, before hitting a line drive back to the circle for out number three. The bottom of the second Meghan Daffern took a stroll down to first base with a walk to lead things off. Peyton Bagley doubled down the left field line placing runners on second and third with one out. Monique Gomez single through the right side allowing both Daffern and Bagley to score tying the game at 2-2 before stranding one runner on base. The top of the third inning got away from DWU as they allowed four runs with two errors in the half inning and now trailing 6-2. McKinnely Mull opened the bottom of the inning with a double to right center field before advancing to third base on a CC wild pitch. Lena McCoy earned the walk to first before advancing to second on a wild pitch allowing Mull to score. Daffern singled up the middle after, putting the Tigers behind 6-4. Dakota Wesleyan was then held scoreless in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning; while the Fighting Saints grabbed four more runs in that time. After allowing three Carroll runs in the top of the seventh, the Tigers looked to close the margin as they stepped to the plate for the final time. Gomez led off with a single to right center before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Nora Nelson reached first on a Carroll error placing runners on the corners before Nelson stole second putting both runners in scoring position. Jordyn Blogg doubled to right center allowing both runners to score as the Tigers trailed 13-6 with no outs. The Tigers were hit with their first two outs of the inning on a strike out and a sac bunt to third placing a runner at third. Kaylie Mathiasen singled to center field allowing Blogg to score, but it was the final run of the game for the Tigers as the third and final out was a swinging stike out.
Dannielle Ratute was credited with the loss after tossing three full innings and allowing six hits, six runs, five earned runs, and three walks on 19 batters faced. Daffern went 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI, a walk, and a double. Bagley was 1-for-2 with a run, and a double. Gomez went 2-for-3 with a run, and two RBI.
Game Two:
Mull got DWU on the board quickly in game two of the day against Minot State, sending a solo shot over the batters' eye in dead center to lead 1-0. The Beavers in the bottom of the first inning also put up a run, but their run came with two outs on a double to center field. After a quite second inning, DWU began to roar again as Alyssa Burke hit a double down the left field line allowing Bagley to score; followed by Daffern's double to right center bringing Burke around for the 3-1 lead over MSU. DWU went three-up and three-down in the fourth allowing Minot the chance to close the margin. The Beavers started with a routine pop up to second base for the first out. With runners on second and third, MSU singled up the middle driving two runs across tying the game at 3-3. The next Beaver batter, doubled to left field scoring the go-ahead runner to lead the Tigers 4-3. Bagley continued to have the hot bat against the Beavers sending her hit over the batters' eye in center field for a three-run home run, to now lead MSU 6-4. After some defensive changes by the Tigers head coach Tommy Downs, DWU quickly got two outs, one on a pop ball to second and the second on a fly out to center field. The Beavers were able to sneak a run across on a double to left center field, cutting the margin to 7-5. A quite sixth inning, took us to the Tigers last chance to push their lead out a little more, which they were able to do as lead off batter Bagley tripled to right field, and Burke singled through the left side giving the Tigers a 7-5 lead after stranding two more runners on base. Minot State quickly received their first out, swinging on a strike three call with one runner on base. After a wild pitch from the Tigers moving the Beavers runner to third, MSU singled up the middle cutting the margin in half. DWU allowed back-to-back hits as they singled down the left field line for the winning run to cross the plate.
In a tight game, the Tigers had one hot bat as Peyton Bagley went 4-for-4 with three runs, and three RBI while hitting for the cycle. Mull was 2-for-4 with two runs, one RBI, and a home run. Burke was also 2-for-4 with one run, two RBI, and a double. Daffern tossed two and two-third innings allowing five hits, four runs, two earned runs, and striking out two batters as she was hit with the loss. Katelyn Farris tossed four complete innings allowing five hits, four runs, three and earned runs.
Up Next
The Tigers are back in action next week Friday and Saturday from another domed turf field. DWU will travel to Sioux Center, Iowa and the campus of Dordt University to take one four opponents in two days. On Friday, the Tigers will take on Mount Mercy at noon, then at 2 p.m., they will take the field against Mayville State. On Saturday, DWU will take the field first thing in the morning at 10 a.m. against Peru State, followed by a 2 p.m. first pitch against Grand View.
