TIGER SOFTBALL NEARLY SECURES THE SPLIT AGAINST DODT
Sioux Center, Iowa – Dakota Wesleyan softball drops both games against the Defenders in the American State Bank Dome Saturday afternoon after leading 7-6 in game two heading into the bottom of the seventh.

How It Happened
Game 1
The Tigers were loud to start game one against Dordt in the dome this afternoon, putting up a pair of runs early after Alyssa Burke singled, then stole second; and McKinnely Mull was hit by a pitch for runners on the corners. Peyton Bagley stepped up, roping a double to right field allowing Burke to score and putting runners on second and third with no outs. Mull crossed the plate after Lena McCoy reached first on a Defender error before advancing to second on the same error keeping runners on second and third. DWU stranded one runner on base after the top of the first as they led 2-0. The bats quickly cooled off for DWU after that as the next run and final fun for DWU came in the fifth inning as Mull singled to center field allowing Burke to score, but the runs the Tigers allowed prior to that wasn't enough to close the margin as they fell 10-3.
Katelyn Farris tossed a complete game allowing 12 hits, 10 runs (all earned), walking two, and two home runs. Farris struck out 3-of-33 batters faced throwing 121 total pitches.

Game 2
Dakota Wesleyan was roaring right away in game two of the day, putting up three runs in the first after a double from Bagley, single from Brianna Dawson, and a fielder's choice from Hailey Keefer. The Tiger runs scored in the first came off four hits while the stranded two more runners on base prior to the fly out to center field. After a pair of back-to-back hits from Dordt that scored two runs, DWU came back to the plate to start the second inning. Reagan Grossi got it started with a single to center field before Burke reached on a fielder's choice. With one out already on the board, Bagley dropped a triple in left field scoring Burke, then Mull hit a sac fly to center field allowing Bagley to trot home holding a 5-2 lead over the Defenders. In the third and fourth DWU went three up and three down. Dordt tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs on two hits. Keefer put Dakota Wesleyan back on top in the fifth inning with a single to right field for pinch runner Keirstyn Krcil to cross home for a 6-5 advantage. Dordt tied the game back at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth as the last chance for the Tigers to take the lead came around. Mull got on base with a single to short before Krcil and Dawson both grounded out, but where able to move Mull to third in the process. Jaden Warner singled to center field driving in what was the winning run at the time. DWU needed only three outs to secure the first GPAC win of the 2023 season. The Tigers were able to get a pair of outs on back-to-back ground outs. Dordt's first hit of the inning was a double which scored on a single to short. The Tigers couldn't keep the score tied and force extra innings as the Defenders scored the winning run on a single to left.
Keirstyn Krcil was hit with the loss after tossing 2.2 innings and allowing six hits, and three runs on 13 batters faced. Meghan Daffern started game two for the Tigers tossing four innings, allowing four hits, five runs, and three walks while striking out four batters.
