TIGER SOFTBALL FALLS IN FIRST CONFERENCE DOUBLE HEADER OF THE SEASON TO NO. 15 NWC
Sioux Center, Iowa – Dakota Wesleyan softball was able to put up three total runs between the two games last night to open GPAC play at the natural site of American State Bank on the campus of Dordt University.

How It Happened
Game 1
After the Tigers allowed a first pitch home run from the Raiders leadoff batter and two more runs in the top of the second inning, DWU was able to keep the game close, holding NWC scoreless in the third and fourth innings. After allowing one more run by the Raiders, DWU stranded the bases loaded after a lineout to left field. Through five complete innings, the Tigers stranded just a pair of runners on base. Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning and trailing the Raiders 8-0, Dakota Wesleyan began stringing together some hits as Alyssa Burke singled to left field then stealing second on the following pitch putting her in scoring position. Peyton Bagley stepped up and went for a triple to right center easily allowing Burke to trot home for the Tigers first run of the game. Lena McCoy followed it with a hit of her own to right center field driving in the Bagley for the second and final Tigers run of the game.
Katelyn Farris dropped to 2-7 on the year after tossing five complete innings allowing nine hits, five earned runs, and five walk on 31 batters faced. Farris struck out one batter in her 119 total pitches thrown. Danielle Ratute tossed two complete innings facing 15 batters and allowing four hits, four run, three earned runs and walking three batters.

Game 2
After holding the Raiders to only one run in the first inning, three runs in the third inning and two runs in the fifth. Hailey Keefer dug a hard-hit ground ball out of the turf in the sixth keeping the bases empty and allowing the Tigers to go one-two-three and get back to the plate trailing 6-0. The lone DWU run of game two came with two outs as Burke singled through, the right side followed by Bagley singling up the middle for runners on the corners. Bagley went to steal second, when the Raiders threw down Burke went for the plate and the throw back home wasn't in time as the lone run for the Tigers scored.
Meghan Daffern tossed the full seven innings of game two, falling to 3-6 on the season. She allowed 12 hits, six runs, and struck out four of her 32 batters faced.

Dakota Wesleyan softball is back in action on Saturday when they make the trip back to Sioux Center, Iowa, and the American State Bank Dome for a double header against Dordt. The Tigers and Defenders will get under way in game one with a 1 p.m. first pitch; game two will follow approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
