DWU SOFTBALL DROPS BOTH GAMES TO DOANE DESPITE HAVING PRODUCTIVE AT BATS

How It Happened
Game 1
DWU struck first in the seasonal meeting of the tigers as Peyton Bagley's two out single through the right side drove in Alyssa Burke for the first run of the game and the 1-0 lead. Dakota Wesleyan stuck again in the second inning after a quick three-up and three-down of Doane. Reagan Grossi reached base on a double to center field, giving McKinnely Mull an RBI after a single pushing the lead to 2-0. The shutout lead was quicky erased in the bottom of the second as Doane tallied four runs on four hits in the bottom half of the second. The next four complete frames of softball, hits and base runners were few as both DWU and DOA combines for three hits four runners. Dakota Wesleyan was able to grab one run in the top of the seventh inning as Burke grounded out to the pitcher allowing Grossi to score the final run of the game as they fall 4-3 in game one.
Meghan Daffern tossed five complete innings in game one allowing six hits, four runs, and one walk in her 23 batters faced. Katelyn Farris threw the final inning facing three batters and striking out one.

Game 2
After Doane took the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, DWU grabbed the run back in to second as Nora Nelson hit a sac fly to center field allowing Bagley to cross home tying the game at 2-2. DOA grabbed three more runs in the third for the 4-1 lead. Dakota Wesleyan threatened to take the lead after Brianna Dawson dropped an extra base hit into right center field allowing two runners to score as they trailed 4-3. Doane grabbed two more of their own in the bottom of the inning, pushing the margin to 6-3. Dakota Wesleyan was having productive at bats putting up two more runs in the fifth and one in the seventh, but defensively, they were unable to get out of jams. As they fall 9-6 in Crete.
Farris was handed the loss after tossing five innings and allowing 11 hits, eight runs, two walks, and striking out one of her 26 batters faced. Keirstyn Krcil tossed one complete inning allowing two hits, one run, and two walks in seven batters faced.

DWU softball is back in action one week from today as they close the book on the 2023 regular season. The Tigers will play host to the Flames of Saint Mary as we honor the seniors. The double header is set to begin at 1 p.m. from the Cadwell Sports Complex.
