FARGO, N.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team picked up a 1-0, nine-inning shutout of Concordia College-Moorhead behind a five-hit shutout from pitcher Nick Anglin Tuesday afternoon in Fargo, N.D.
Anglin, a freshman from Vermillion, S.D., spread five hits over nine innings and didn't allow more than one hit in a single inning. The Cobbers only had more than one runner on base in the eighth and ninth innings, but the Tiger defense stayed strong to preserve the shutout and the win.
The Tigers (20-29) only had four hits, and only got multiple runners on base in the eighth and ninth innings, but they were able to take advantage in the eighth. Chris Ciatti walked to start the inning, and Michael Lukkason bunted to advance Tyler Johnson, who was running for Ciatti. Jon Holsworth followed with an RBI double to score Johnson and give DWU all the runs it would need.
Holsworth had two of the Tigers' four hits and Erik Nockleby, Stephen Gunnell each added a hit. Nockleby's hit was a triple. Anglin gave up five hits and struck out one in nine innings of work to pick up his second win of the year. It is his first complete game of the year.
Dakota Wesleyan is back at home Thursday, April 26, when it hosts Dordt College in its final home game of the year. That game will also serve as senior night for the Tigers. The Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader starts at 4 p.m. at Cadwell Park.
