MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team has the opportunity to play host to a group of very special guests this offseason.
The Tigers, who recently started practicing for the 2012 season, will host the Minnesota Twins Caravan during one of its many stops. The caravan will be in Mitchell from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Sherman Center on the Dakota Wesleyan campus.
The stop in Mitchell is one of five stops this year's caravan will make in South Dakota. The caravan will be in Milbank, S.D., and Aberdeen, S.D., on Jan. 23. On Jan. 24, the caravan will stop in Huron, S.D., before continuing on to Mitchell. After an hour-long stop in Mitchell, it will travel east and stop in Sioux Falls, S.D., before heading back to Minnesota.
Three current Twins players and an analyst and former Twin will be a part of the South Dakota caravan. Pitcher Anthony Swarzak and infielders Trevor Plouffe and Chris Parmelee will be at the Sherman Center along with play-by-play analyst and former Twin Dan Gladden. The Twins' mascot, T.C. Bear, will also make an appearance.
The caravan stop is free and open to the public. It will be a one-hour presentation, starting at noon with an introductory video and a brief introduction of the Tigers' 2012 baseball team by Gladden. A question and answer session with the Twins' players will follow, and some door prizes will be given out.
This year marks the 52nd annual Twins Winter Caravan, which features stops in nearly 50 communities throughout Minnesota, western Wisconsin and South Dakota. The caravan, which runs Jan. 16 through Jan. 30, is one of the longest-running and most extensive offseason team caravans in professional sports.
