Sabers wins second straight GPAC POTW
MITCHELL, S.D. – For the second time in as many weeks, Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball junior forward Kristin Sabers picked up a weekly conference honor after two more Tiger wins.
MITCHELL, S.D. – For the second time in as many weeks, Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball junior forward Kristin Sabers picked up a weekly conference honor after two more Tiger wins.
The Mitchell, S.D., native was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second straight week, it was announced by the conference Tuesday.
Sabers started her week by etching her name in the DWU record books in a win over Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. The 6-foot forward hit a DWU record tying eight 3-pointers in a 93-65 win over the Defenders. She holds the record with Nikki Weber (2001-02), Abbey DeWolf (2003-04) and Amanda Hart (2011-12).
Sabers finished the win over Dordt shooting 9-of-18 from the field, 8-of-13 from deep and scored 26 points. She added six assists and three rebounds.
Over the weekend, Sabers added another strong performance as the No. 16 Tigers topped No. 9 Concordia University at the Corn Palace. She finished with 16 points of 6-of-12 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Sabers is averaging 16.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game this season.
The Tigers (10-1, 4-1 GPAC) return to action against Northern State University in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Aberdeen, S.D.
