MITCHELL, S.D. – After one of the most prolific careers in Great Plains Athletic Conference history, former Concordia University star women's basketball player Bailey Morris is set to join the Dakota Wesleyan University coaching staff, it was announced Tuesday.
DWU head coach Jason Christensen said that Morris will bring GPAC star power to the Tigers, helping the team in practice and game day, as well as on the recruiting trail.
"Bringing in a talent the caliber of Bailey Morris is a great addition to the team," Christensen said. "She is a well-known player in her home state of Nebraska and should really help with recruiting in that region. Morris knows the GPAC very well and we are extremely excited that she has chosen to continue her career with the Tigers"
Morris completed her record-breaking four-year career at Concordia in 2014-15, guiding the Bulldogs to a GPAC tournament title and NAIA runner-up finish. She holds the Concordia school records for career points (2,054), points in a single season (665) and points in a single game (45). She was named the NAIA National Player of the Year in 2014-15, along with picking up her second-straight GPAC Player of the Year award.
Morris was also named the GPAC Player of the Week eight times, to the All-GPAC team four times and was a two-time honorary captain of the Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska Team. The Bulldogs were a combined 119-21 with four appearances in the NAIA national tournament, while winning two GPAC regular season titles and a pair of GPAC postseason tournaments.
After graduating from Concordia, Morris took a graduate assistant job with the Oklahoma Wesleyan University women's basketball team, which finished the 2015-16 season with a record of 17-14.
Morris joins a DWU team that graduated no seniors from a squad that made the NAIA quarterfinals and finished with a record of 27-9, the best for the program in 12 years.
