Sabers named GPAC POTW for 3rd time in 2015-16
MITCHELL, S.D. – For the third time in 2015-16, Dakota Wesleyan University junior forward Kristin Sabers has picked up a weekly conference honor after another strong performance for the Tigers in a crucial Great Plains Athletic Conference win.
MITCHELL, S.D. – For the third time in 2015-16, Dakota Wesleyan University junior forward Kristin Sabers has picked up a weekly conference honor after another strong performance for the Tigers in a crucial Great Plains Athletic Conference win.
The Mitchell, S.D., native has been named the GPAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for her performance against No. 3 Hastings College, the conference announced Tuesday.
Sabers scored 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting, while making six 3-pointers and all five of her free throws. She added seven rebounds and four assists in the win, while scoring nine points in the fourth quarter to help DWU to put the game away. The win pushed the Tigers to 13-1 overall and 7-1 in the GPAC. DWU is tied with Morningside College at the top of the league standings.
Sabers is averaging 18.9 points per game, a team high, and is making 48.7 percent of her field goals. She has already set a new career high in 3-pointers made with 46 through 14 games. She currently ranks third in the conference and 12th in NAIA in points per game and is eighth in the nation in made 3-point field goals.
This is the third GPAC Player-of-the-Week for Sabers after she won back-to-back awards earlier this season. The Tigers continue GPAC play against No. 22 Northwestern College at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Orange City, Iowa.
